Rio Aviation is now authorized to conduct scenic flights over Big Bend National Park. Operating in the area since 2010 Rio Aviation has been offering tours primarily over the Big Bend Ranch State Park and the Santa Elena Reserve. Rio Aviation will still strive to avoid flights over sensitive or populated areas of the park, and the surrounding communities, but we will now be offering flights over the Sierra Quemada, the Rio Grande, and the Mule Ears area as well.
Are you allowed to fly near-over the Chisos Mtns, and the RGV area? Approximate prices and tour length? Thanks!
Yes I am allowed to fly over RGV area and the Chisos but I try to avoid the developed areas as much as I can. I charge $300 an hour for a 1 hour flight for up to 4 persons with some weight considerations. That price is for the flight whether it is one or four persons. I do have a couple of exceptional tours that I do that do not include Rio Grande Village but they could. My two standard routes are a flight that includes Santa Elena Canyon the Big
Bend Ranch State park, the Solitario, and the Devils Playground. The other popular flight goes over the canyon and follows the river to the actual “Big Bend ” at Mariscal canyon. It then returns over Mariscal mine, the Elephant tusk, the Sierra Quemada, the Mule ears and back to Terlingua. I recommend scheduling flights for the morning hours, especially if you will be coming during the warmer months. Just let me know when you settle on a date and we will schedule it for you.
